"Wireless Information Devices and the Mobile Web"
Charles W. Davies, BSc, PhD

Internet access terminals will diversify over time. An important class of Internet access device will be the so-called "Wireless Information Device", a product category created by the convergence of mobile phones and handheld computers. Wireless information devices are spurred by the combination of the rapidly growing cellular mobile infrastructure and Internet infrastructure, both of which should reach a billion users before the end of the first decade of the new millennium.
The talk will cover relevant industry and technology trends, the history of the Symbian joint venture, application and content architectures, and device form factors. The aim is to give the audience a greater insight into this exciting emerging category.
