Cherish The Night

Author: Ian Pires

Dear Love, through yon window Tampa stands,
How long do we kiss in sight of all the lands,
And mark meetings of moon and star;
Ah! longer, please longer, for the sun isnt far.

Come forth, sweet stars, and comfort heaven's heart,
Oh night! divorce our sun and sky apart,
So never our lips, or hands should part.

Dear green-eyed little sweetheart mine,
I beg for your kiss, its drink a fine wine,
You are fair and sweet and slender,
So I call you beautiful and tender.

We lay, my head pillow'd upon my fair love's breast,
Awake tonight in the sweetest unrest,
I listen to hear her tender-taken breath,
I live for this moment - for without, worse than death.

Alas night is replaced by dawn, why must the sun shine?
Bane to the sun, its warm tendrils advancing vines,
Your loving arms pull me tight, our sorrows swell,
Quickly, one parting kiss our last farewell.
